Body Shop Framing Line - Logo
Body shop framing line

A seven-station automotive framing line speaking two protocols, where the tightening tool is a device in its own right.

v0.1.0

How it works

An automotive body shop framing line: 7 devices and 181 tags, one body at a time.

It speaks two protocols, and that is the point. Six stations answer Modbus TCP, and the tightening tool controller answers Atlas Copco Open Protocol, where the driver’s own field names are the domain model rather than something invented for the demo.

The money moments are fastening containment scoped to the bodies actually affected rather than to a shift, cold welds that a stepper’s own counters hide, and the line constraint measured against takt so the station to fix is the one that is really costing throughput.

Body shop framing line with three respot cells, torque, gauge and end-of-line stations showing weld current and electrode wear against a 55 s takt, per-VIN bodies moving through the buffers, and a fault injection panel
The same framing line after 2h 52m of production: 189 bodies completed, Cell 1 to Cell 2 buffer full and the gauge station flagged as starved upstream
Downtime by stop reason ranked longest first with cumulative share, and where each station's time went as a share of PackML conditions across the six stations
Line KPIs for constraint cycle, jobs per hour, first time through, cold welds and joints outside the window, with line output charted against takt and per-station tag detail
