Paper machine

A fine-paper machine and its scanning quality control system over OPC UA, with the cross-direction sheet profile the operator actually runs the machine on.

v0.5.1

How it works

What it simulates

A fine-paper machine and its scanning quality control system, from stock preparation through to the reel. Eight sections, 118 nodes, served over OPC UA.

Most continuous processes report single values. A paper machine also reports a profile across the sheet, so the operator view shows both axes:

  • the machine in side elevation, with the sheet threaded through it
  • the sheet seen from above, one bar per headbox dilution zone
  • the scanner head drawn at its live position

What it configures on Litmus Edge

On startup, and it removes exactly what it created when you are finished:

  • 8 DeviceHub devices on the OPC UA Client Advanced driver
  • 8 Digital Twin models, one instance each
  • 4 multi-input Analytics groups: fibre giveaway health, cross-direction profile health, drying energy, sheet break risk

Scenarios you can inject

  • A stuck headbox dilution valve puts a streak in the sheet the profile controller cannot remove, and breaks the sheet two sections downstream
  • A plugged press felt raises steam per tonne with quality and output unchanged, which is why it can run for months unnoticed
