Food Manufacturer Uses Agritech to Improve Crop Yield
  • Agricultural robots connect intermittently to upload data on crop and soil health.

  • Litmus Edge normalizes and integrates the data to AWS Cloud natively.

  • Agricultural engineers use the data to monitor crop health and make changes.

  • Solution can scale to hundreds of robots with centralized management.

  • Saves time and money, replaces physical soil sampling and improves crop yield.

The growing division of an EU-based food manufacturer is modernizing their operations to cultivate crops more efficiently and increase crop yields. They have deployed several connected assets, including agricultural robots that kill weeds and vertical farming containers with digital sensors. They recently added gateways running Litmus Edge to the assets to collect and act on agricultural data for improved crop health.

In this unique intermittently connected use case, the agricultural robots do their work in the field, then return to a docking station at the end of every shift. They connect to the Internet, and Litmus Edge normalizes and sends the data to AWS Cloud. Then agricultural engineers can access the data from anywhere to monitor crop health, soil conditions and more.

Litmus Edge was chosen for this cutting-edge agritech project for its secure, fast, and easy deployment on assets in the field with no programming required. The customer had already chosen AWS for the cloud and Litmus comes with pre-built integration, so they were up and running from start-to-finish in just a few months. The solution can scale easily with Litmus Edge Manager for mass bootstrapping, license and firmware management and application deployment.

The customer is well on their way to completely replacing physical soil sampling with the agritech project. The data Litmus Edge collects and sends to AWS is improving crop health and yield as engineers instruct the field team to adjust watering and weed control as needed. Changes and decisions are now driven by real data from the field, faster and easier than ever before.
